「東北の新月」は日系カナダ人映画監督のリンダ・オーハマが震災後２年間に渡り、東北の人たちと寄添い、行動をともにする中で生まれたドキュメンタリー映画で、現在編集作業が進んでいます。この映画では日本を襲った未曾有の出来事に直面した東北の人たちが、物質面だけではなく、心や夢、人との繋がりを復興させていこうとする姿、そして厳しい状況の中でも東北の人たちが見せる笑顔の背後にあるものに光があてられています。映画は今秋完成予定です。
“TOHOKU NO SHINGESU: A New Moon Over Tohoku”
This is a film about the lives and experiences of people living in Tohoku as they recover from the worst disaster in Japan since WWII. Their memories, dreams, and losses are like ‘their ghosts’ which are the life-force of their culture. A delicate weaving together of voices, historical archival images, re-created dreams, still photos and original footage makes this story poignant and painful, yet very moving and beautiful.
“The samurai we filmed is real, not a movie actor, and the centuries-old tradition of discipline and horsemanship continues. The dancers dancing in the debris are young, yet the dances link back through centuries, and these young women dance for a generation claiming a right to a future. The young boy charmed by the springtime blossoms of a new year and renewed life has been affected by the radiaton and may not have a healthy life. The childhood song (‘Furusato’) sung by many of the characters resonates in the Japanese soul. a lament seeking to regain the marvel of home, a place with the trees and streams and animals of childhood.”
