シイガシは、市内のお寺の老木と共に、埼玉県の天然記念物候補に挙がったそうです。盆栽のように優美な姿が、知られていたのでしょう。民家のため由緒が分からず、県に指定されませんでした。それなら、と当時の桶川町が、１９６０年文化財第１号に指定したわけです。 １９８１年、シイガシは上越新幹線建設により、３年以上かけて４０m離れた現在の場所へ移植されました。多くの人の力で無事根付いた、貴重な老木の移植成功例です。 その後、首都圏中央連絡自動車道の計画が発表され、環境アセスメントの距離の間違いが報じられました。報道が切っ掛けとなり、市内普門寺のしだれ桜が市文化財に指定されたと聞いています。 圏央道建設が始まると、シイガシはごっそり葉が落ちてしまいました。 シイガシは今も生きようと闘っています。４５０年、この地に住む人々と共に生きた老木です。どうかこれからも応援してください。シイガシも皆さんをお守りします。 シイガシ基金 代表 髙山 麗子 支援口座 シイガシ基金 ゆうちょ銀行振替口座００２１０−９−８９２１３ ATM ５万円未満 料金８０円 窓口５万円未満１３０円 ゆうちょダイレクトもご利用いただけます。 振込手数料をご負担いただくようになりますが、クラウドファンディングは手数料が差し引かれます。

We have a 450-year-old tree, that is called Shiigashi, designated as a natural treasure by Okegawa city. This old tree has been loved by local people for many years because of its beautiful shape like a bonsai. But, due to the construction of the Joetsu Shinkansen (Bullet train), this tree was moved 40 meters from the original location. This relocation work took 3 years and many people. It was finished successfully but this old tree faced another hazard: the newly built expressway. When construction of the expressway started, this old tree lost a lot of its leaves. The old tree is struggling to survive but have to cope with the expressway. We need financial supports to save the tree. The Okegawa city does not have enough budget to cover the maintenance cost of the tree so we personally have to spend the cost which is too much for us. It would be very much appreciated if you could support our project to save the tree!!
