１１月３日に那覇市首里で行われた首里城祭りにて、辺野古や基地問題に関する街頭インタビューを行った。

On Nov 3rd, I interviewed Okinawa people about Henoko and the American base issue at Shurijyou Castle festival in Naha City.

もう戦後７０年になるのに、貴重な自然を壊してまでこれから新しい基地をつくるというのは考えられない。だけど日本の政治家は辺野古を守ることができないと思う。基地をつくってしまったら、これから１００年は基地がそこにあることになる。

“It’s a shame to destroy Henoko’s precious nature to build a new American base. It’s been 70 years after Japan lost the war, and Okinawa is still building a new American base. I don’t think Japanese politicians can save Henoko. If the Japanese government build a new base in Henoko, it’s the end. The base will be standing there for 100 years.”

新基地は反対。辺野古の見直しも視野に入れているので現時点では翁長さんを応援している。

“I oppose the new base. I support Mr. Onaga because he considers to rethink Henoko.”

自分は辺野古の住民ではないので、経済のことや公約を見て投票先を決めようと思っている。

“I live far away from Henoko, so I am going to decide the candidate based on the economy and policies.”

-内原さん（４０代・男性・那覇市・自営業）

-Uchihara (40’s, Male, Naha City, Independent business)

候補者をもっと絞ってくれたらよかったのに思う。裏に事情があるのだろうけれど、票散らしにしか思えない。基地が近くにあったら大変だろうとは思うけれど、那覇だと基地まで距離があるので、現地の人の痛みをわかってあげられているかはわからない。

“I wish there were fewer candidates that oppose Henoko. They could have chosen one candidate. I guess there are circumstances behind, but it looks like they are trying to just scatter votes to me. I do think it will be hard to live close to the base, but Naha is far from the base. So I don’t think people in Naha feel the same as the people who actually live nearby the base in Futenma.”

基地のある中北部と那覇とでは同じ沖縄でも文化が違い、基地問題に対しての意識も違うと思う。那覇の人は肌で基地問題を感じているかどうかは疑問。辺野古の自然は残した方がいいと思う。辺野古や基地問題以外にも、本土と色んな意味で離れている沖縄が独自にどうやって生きてゆくのかが課題。

“Middle and North of Okinawa have American base and very different culture from Naha City even though we are all Okinawa. So I think people have different feelings based on the area that they live in. I think we should preserve Henoko’s nature. Okinawa’s problems are not just the base and Henoko. Okinawa is a part of Japan but we are too different from Japan. We have to figure out how  Okinawa is going to live uniquely.”

尖閣よりも辺野古の方が大きな問題。尖閣の問題は離れすぎていてピンとこない。

“It feels like Henoko is a bigger problem than Senkaku. Senkaku is an island that’s very far and there is not much communication.”

公約があまり守られていないので、政治にはあまり期待していない。賛成反対なしに、基地で働いている人もいるし、基地で潤っている人もいるし、全然関係ない人もいるから、どっちとも言えない。

“I don’t have much hope in politics because politicians tend to break their public promises. It’s not easy to pick a side because there are people who make living out of the base and people who don’t benefit at all.”

基地反対が第一。街の真ん中にある普天間飛行場は危険なので早く移転してほしいが、辺野古移設、もしくは人のいない離島に基地をつくることは賛成。基地を減らすことは大事だけど、沖縄は基地を県外移設することはできないと思う。結局アメリカが守ってくれているわけだし、中国や朝鮮がミサイルを撃ってくるのでゼロにはできないと思う。翁長さんを押している。

“First thing first, I am against the base in Futenma. Moving Futenma base from the middle of the town is the first priority, then they should build a new base in Henoko or somewhere else with no people living close by. I believe that reducing American base in Okinawa is important but it’s impossible to move all the bases out of Okinawa. After all America is protecting us. China and Korea may launch missiles at us. I support Mr. Onaga who oppose the base this time.”

基地がないと経済的にも発展しないという沖縄の現状があるので、辺野古に反対する翁長さんの政策には反対。仲井眞さんに頑張ってほしい。沖縄のマスコミは反対意見ばかり流して世論を誘導しようとしているように感じるので信用できない。何万人規模で反対の市民が集まったという報道をして、それが沖縄県民の総意であるかのような言い方をするので、知らない人は沖縄の人は皆基地反対だと思うのではないか。

“I cheer for Nakaima. Okinawa’s economy is depending on the base so I don’t support Mr. Onaga who is against the new base in Henoko. Okinawa’s media is too liberal. The media always report the opinions against the base and they are trying to induce the public sentiment. They report events like massive assembly of the people who oppose the base, and report it as if that’s the Okinawa. So people who don’t know Okinawa may think everyone in Okinawa is against the base.”

基地反対と言えば票が取れるし、選挙はパフォーマンスに見える。基地問題以外のことで選挙を争ってほしい。沖縄は日本政府から補助金をもらっているから、中央政府の権限が強いような気がする。沖縄独立をしたい人もいるけれど、沖縄だけで経済を回すのは不可能だと思う。治安や医療も独立したらどうなるのかと思う。

“Elections look like a performance to me. Politicians say that they are against the base so they can get more votes. I want them to talk about other things. I feel like Okinawa is under the strong influence of the authority of the central government because Okinawa receives lots of subsidy. Some people want Okinawa to be an independent country, but I don’t think Okinawa can sustain its economy, security and medical. “

-瀬底さん（２０代・男性・那覇市・土木業）

-Setoko (20’s, Male, Naha City, Construction)

辺野古移設ではなく、嘉手納に基地を統合してほしい。普天間は返還してもらって、跡地をテーマパークか何かとして利用してほしい。

“I want the government to consolidate the bases to Kadena base instead of building a new base in Henoko. If possible, I want to turn the site into a theme park or something after moving Futenma base.”

-Majya (40’s, Female, Haebaru, Office Worker)

以前普天間の近くに住んでいたし、軍で働いていて警備に入っていたりしていたので、普天間の危険性はすごく実感している。だから早く普天間は閉鎖するべきだと思う。辺野古の自然は大切だけど、宜野湾で生活している人のことを考えたら、辺野古に移すべきだと思う。

“I used to live close to Futenma. And I work at the base as a security officer. I think we should shut down Base Futenma soon beacause I do know how dangerous it is to have the base like that in the middle of the city. Of course the nature in Henoko is priceless, but I still think we should build a new base in Henoko so the people in Ginowan City can stop suffering from the base.”
