Mr. Kina demanded the dominating candidate Mr. Takeshi Onaga, who took a stand as an opposer of the new American base in Henoko, to declare the repeal of the approval to landfill Henoko in clearer manner. Mr. Kina was going to back off if Mr. Onaga promised the repeal. But Mr. Onaga didin\u2019t change (or couldn\u2019t change) his more ambiguous way of wording to oppose the landfill of Henoko to build the new American base. A nomination of Mr. Kina came as a surprise to many people and it is resulting in some people to look at the reality of an “normal election” which politicians compromise their public promises for the sake of constraints and interests.<\/p>\n

On Oct 30th, the first day of the election, Mr. Kina sailed on a wooden boar called Sabani from Kudaka Island, gods\u2019 island, to the port Matenkou. The voyage took about 3 hours. He had a voyage called \u201cSabani Peace Connection\u201d about 10 years ago that he sailed from Okinawa, where the brutal battle happened on the land during the WWII, to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the places that experienced the weapon of mass-destruction atomic bombs, to carry the message of peace. In the afternoon Mr. Kina visited Sefa-utake and Shurijyou Castle to give prayers. He told a reporter that he thought that landfilling Henoko means landfilling the spirit of Okinawa people. This election is important for the spirit of Okinawa. So he wanted to visit the important cultural, historical and spiritual places of Okinawa before he started the campaign in public.<\/p>\n
